Anatomy of a dream closet: Details make the difference

In this special holiday series, Anatomy of a Dream Closet, I'm sharing the design considerations that go into creating a closet that fits you perfectly. (Click here for Part One). Part Two is all about the DETAILS! As a reminder, this series focuses on a master closet I recently designed for a South Tulsa couple, but the concepts apply to all types of closets—Need help re-envisioning your space?

PRO TIP: Dream closets utilize SO many storage tips and closet ideas I've blogged about previously—don't miss the links tucked into each post!

Now, for the details....

The Tools

On the right side of the photo above is one of my favorite custom closet details—the telescoping valet rod! The valet rod is a beautifully simple, multi-purpose tool for trying on outfits, steaming clothes, deciding whether to toss a garment in the breakup basket, packing for a trip or planning your clothes for the next day.

This closet feature has SO many uses—here are five of my favorite ways to use a valet rod.

In addition to my clients' individual storage habits, they wanted a mix of closet shelving and cabinet doors and drawers so not everything is on display. It can be so much fun to show off your favorite shoes on a custom shoe rack or store your jewelry vanity-style. But most clients want at least a little space to keep valuables and undergarments out of sight.

The Jewels

These clients selected upgraded pillow top cabinet doors and drawer fronts, as well as upgraded hardware to match the rest of their home.

Hardware is basically the jewelry on the closet—it's the finishing touch that sets the tone!

Customized upgrades like these make all the difference in creating a space you will love long-term. No matter your taste in styles and finishes, Closets of Tulsa has done it all. Just ask—we can make it happen!

The Setup

Many people think of staging as something you do when you're selling a house or setting up a boutique. At Closets of Tulsa, we see staging as an exciting bonus step to maximize enjoyment of your new storage system after we've installed your closets.

Simple staging involves decluttering your space and artfully displaying the things you're using this season in your shopping zone—your line of sight. Don't forget about clothes hangers—here are the four types of hangers I use and why.
